Formats

Whatever your event’s rules are, Scorecast’s scoring engine gets them right, and shows the leaderboard the way each format actually needs to be read.

Stroke Play

Every stroke counts, straight through 18.

The format everyone knows: total strokes across all holes, lowest cumulative score wins. Scorecast supports multi-round events with automatic cut lines after any round.

Best for: club championships, qualifiers, and multi-day tournaments

How it’s scored

  1. 1Players (or their scorer) enter a gross score for each hole as they play
  2. 2The leaderboard totals strokes relative to par and re-sorts live
  3. 3Optional cut line marks the field after a chosen round
  4. 4Net scoring applies each player's handicap stroke-by-stroke on the hardest holes first
Gross and net supported side by side, spectators can toggle either view.

Match Play

Hole by hole. Win, lose, or halve.

A head-to-head battle scored one hole at a time. Scorecast tracks live status as "2 UP thru 14," detects when a match closes out early ("3&2"), and supports single/double elimination brackets or round-robin pools with standings.

Best for: Ryder Cup style events and club match play championships

How it’s scored

  1. 1Each hole is marked won, lost, or halved for the pairing
  2. 2The margin updates live: "2 UP," "AS" (all square), or a closed-out "3&2"
  3. 3Brackets seed automatically from your roster; pools track win/loss/halve standings
  4. 4Spectators see every match on the board at once, live status included
Works for singles, and extends to team match play formats like foursomes.

Scramble

Best ball, one shot at a time, as a team.

Every teammate tees off, the team picks the best resulting ball, and everyone plays their next shot from there, repeating until the ball's holed. One team score per hole.

Best for: charity outings and buddies trips where the format needs to stay fast and social

How it’s scored

  1. 1All teammates hit from the tee
  2. 2The team selects the best shot and everyone plays their next stroke from that spot
  3. 3Repeat until holed, the result is the team's single score for that hole
  4. 4The leaderboard shows team scores, not individual ones
Layer in skins, closest-to-pin, or long drive side games on top of any scramble.

Best Ball (Fourball)

Everyone plays their own ball. Best score wins the hole.

Each player plays a full 18 holes on their own ball. The team's score for a hole is simply the better (or best, in larger teams) individual score among teammates.

Best for: member-guest events and two-person team formats

How it’s scored

  1. 1Every player completes each hole individually, gross or net
  2. 2The lowest individual score on the team counts as the team's score for that hole
  3. 3Individual scores still roll up for optional individual-low honors
Net best ball uses each player's full handicap allowance, unlike Scramble's blended allowance.

Team

Configurable aggregate scoring for any group format.

A flexible team format: sum every teammate's net score, count only the best N of M scores per hole, or aggregate Stableford points by team, whichever your event calls for.

Best for: corporate outings and league play with mixed-skill teams

How it’s scored

  1. 1Choose your aggregation rule when you create the event
  2. 2Individual scores are entered per player, per hole as usual
  3. 3Scorecast applies your rule automatically to produce the team total
Pairs well with a points-based (Stableford) scoring type for uneven handicaps.

Sixes

New partner every six holes.

A group of six (or a rotating fourball) splits into partnerships that change every six holes, three segments, three different partners. Typically scored match play or points-based per segment, with a cumulative total across the round.

Best for: member mixers and social league nights

How it’s scored

  1. 1Holes 1-6: first partnership pairing plays match play or points
  2. 2Holes 7-12: partners rotate for the second segment
  3. 3Holes 13-18: partners rotate again for the final segment
  4. 4Segment results sum into one cumulative points total for the round
Each segment is scored independently, then totaled; the engine reuses the same match play logic three times per round.
